'Back in Black' homecoming celebration underway at MAC

Homecoming in the Mount Ayr Community school district continues this week around the theme 'Back In Black.'

The celebration opened Monday wit the first of five dress-up days and continues through the homecoming dance Friday night.

Dress up days continue today (Thursday) with pair-up day. Students will dress in pairs by dressing alike or in sets of characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse or Superman and Lois Lane.

Friday will be spirit day, with everyone asked to dress in black, white and red -- the school colors.

Students will also be doing several decoration activities during the week at the school and around the community.

Activity picks up tonight (Thursday) with the annual student council supper in the high school commons from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The football jersey auction will be held in the high school gymnasium beginning at 6;30 p.m. A 2004 jersey will be sold.

The queen coronation will be held at 7:30 p.m. [Queen candidates listed above.] Helping at the coronation will be prince cal DAUGHTON, son of Matt and Julianne DAUGHTON of Kellerton, and princess Molly ANDERSON, daughter of Kelly and Debbie ANDERSON of Mount Ayr.

Two volleyball games will be held next, with the freshman and sophomore volleyball players taking on the freshmen and sophomore football players and cross country team members, and the junior and senior volleball players taking on the junior and senior football players and cross country runners.

Following the volleyball games, the king coronation will be held. [King candidates listed above.]

Activity Friday begins with the parade at 1:30 p.m. The parade route will be different this year, beginning at the lot where the former First Baptist Church was located, coming south to the south side of the square on Fillmore Street, turning east on Monroe Street, going back north on Taylor Street to Jefferson Street, then following Jefferson Street east to the high school.

Entries in the parade shold be made by calling the high school guidance office.

The pep rally will then be held at the football field for the school and community as soon as the parade is over. Elementary students will join in the parade as it comes by the elementary school so they can take part in the pep rally. The public is invited to come to the pep rally as well.

School will be dismissed at the regular time following the pep rally -- 3:25 p.m. at the elementary and 3:30 p.m. at the high school.

The football game with Wayne will be held Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the football field, with halftime ceremonies by the Mount Ayr Community Raider football team and the Sparks drill team. The queen and court and parents will be on hand for the halftime activities as well.

Following the game there will be a homecoming dance at the high school gymnasium with JD Def Jam. The dance for junior high students will be from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. while the high school students will be allowed to stay until 12:30 p.m. at the dance.
