MACHS band takes first at FieldFest

Raider band drum major Allison Wallace accepts the first-place trophy
at last week's Loess Hills FieldFest held in Glenwood.
The band returns to Glenwood this Saturday for the IHSMA State Marching Band Festival.

The Mount Ayr Community high school band brought home the first-place trophy in its class in the Loess Hills FieldFest held at Glenwood Saturday, October 12.

"The Loess Hills FieldFest was a great experience for all our band members," said band director Greg STORHOFF. "The students did an excellent job at our first contest and came home with the first-place trophy. The strange thing is that every time we go to the Loess Hills FieldFest, Mount Ayr is the only band in its Class!"

This year's marching band show is called "The Best of Kiss." Selections include "Rock and Roll All Night" featuring the marching band chorus, "Beth" with trumpet soloist Matt POORE and piccolo solist Alex YOUNG, and "Detroit Rock City" featuring the percussion section.

Drum major for the Raider marching band is Allison WALLACE, and color guard directors are Tiffany WIMER and Crystal STORHOFF.

"The awards ceremony was very impressive," added STORHOFF. "There were 11 marching bands and approximately 700 kids on the field."

Other bands at FieldFest were West Central Valley of Stuart, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Underwood, Clarinda, Treynor, Atlantic, Glenwood, Council Bluffs Abe Lincoln, Council Bluffs Lewis Central and Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson.

Besides playing this Friday night at the home football game, the Raider marching band is back to Glenwood's Ram Stadium on Saturday, October 19 for th e IHSMA State Mraching Band Festival. The MACHS band performs at 9:30 a.m.

Raider marching band fares well
in Glenwood competition

The 2013 Mount Ayr Community marching band received a II-Excellent rating
at the State Marching Band contest held last weekend in Glenwood.

The Mount Ayr Raider marching band brought home a "II Excellent" rating at the IHSMA State Marching Band Festival held at the Glenwood high school Ram stadium on Saturday, October 19.

"The students by far performed their best show of the season," said director Greg STOFHOFF. "The progress the group made as a whole was remarkable. Every facet of the band, including the color guard, percussion, woodwind, and brass sections, improved their entire score from the October 12 Loess Hill Fieldfest.

. . . "The band members and directors really appreciated the MACHS contingent that came to cheer on the Raider Band," added STORHOFF. "It was great to see so many parents and family members in the stands."

Next up for the high school band members will be competiting in the Walt Disney World application, which includes submitting a picture of the group in concert band uniform along with a DVD of their performance to Walt Disney World Entertainment Department. The Disney Magic Music Days will take place in March during spring break.
