Scholarships, awards go to MAC class of 2005

Katie WEDDLE of Mount Ayr and Michael INLOES of Kellerton were named valedictorian and salutatorian and thousands of dollars of scholarships were presented when the annual Mount Ayr Community high school senior awards day was held Thursday morning.

WEDDLE, the daughter of Dr. Dan and Kristy WEDDLE of Mount Ayr, had a 3.99 grade point average for her high school career. INLOES, son of David and Beverly INLOES of Kellerton, had a grade point average of 3.98 for his high school career.

Joining WEDDLE and INLOES in the top 10 of the class were Jared BECK, Amanda HYNEK, Alana JOHNSON, Dustin LARSEN, Rachael LESAN, Morgan RUMPLE, Beckey WHITE and Sandra WHITE.

Judge Lewis scholarships

There were $2,900 in Judge LEWIS scholarships awarded this year. With these awards over $269,000 has been awarded since 1964 when a scholarship fund was set up by Judge Charles LEWIS, a longtime Ringgold County lawyer and judge.

Recipients included Jared BECK, Amanda HYNEK, Dustin LARSEN, Michael INLOES, Alana JOHNSON, Rachael LESAN, Morgan RUMPLE, Katie WEDDLE, Beckey WHITE, Sandra WHITE, Ryan BAILEY, Haley BAKER, Kegan BISHOP, Chelsea CAMPBELL, Scott COOK, Jodi DRAKE, Trisha HENRY, Alex MERCER, Melissa SCHAFER and Amy TRIGGS.

Many other scholarships were also awarded at the ceremony. The amounts are included if they were announced. Scholarships included:

MAC speech, drama awards, letters told

Scott Cook received the Drama Club fine arts award given to a senior who is active in a number of the fine arts. Cook was active in band, drama and art.

Oscar awards for performances during the year and letter winners for speech and drama were named at the Mount Ayr Community athletic awards night Tuesday.

Receiving the "Oscar awards" for performances during the year included:

Fall musical

Best duo performance -- Dustin LARSEN and Tara BAKKER for "How To Brag."

Best solo performance by a male -- Jared BECK.

Best solo performance by a female -- Alexis JOHNSON.

Outstanding male performer -- Scott COOK.

Outstanding female performance -- Haley BAKER.

Most improved performance -- Sandy WHITE.

Spring play

Best Actor -- Scott COOK.

Best Actress -- Sandy WHITE.

Best supporting actor -- Dustin LARSEN.
