Golf team looks to compete in POI conference

The 2016 girls golf team includes: Hallie Still, Elsie Schafer, Cheyenne Haveman, Tessa Shields, Abbi Haley, Abbey Schafer and Kylee Smith.

The 2016 boys golf team includes: Front row: Zane Powell, Lucas Wurster, Jacob Hoveland and Mason Smith; Second row: Hunter Haveman, Myles Greene, Chase Henry, Cade Clymer, and Alex Popelka.

The Raider and Raiderette golf teams are ready to hit the links April 4 with a meet in Nodaway Valley in Greenfield at 4 p.m.

Scott Giles returns in his 22nd year of coaching the golf teams.

Returning to the team are Russell Holmes, and Lucas Wurster for the Raiders and Tessa Shields, Abbey Schafer, Hallie Still and Cheyenne Haveman.

Abbey Schafer qualifies for state;
Raiderettes place fourth

The Raiderette golfers travelled to Anita at Crestwood Hills Golf Course to compete in the Regional Final Golf Tournament.

The first and second place teams advanced to the state tournament where the Raiderettes tied for fourth with Griswold with a score of 408. Winning the tournament was West Monona with a team score of 368, second was Boyer Valley with a 400, and third was Westwood Sloan with a 405. Wayne did not finish the tournament.

Five low individual scores advance to the state tournament with Mount Ayr's Abbey Schafer being the lone Raiderette where she place 5th with score of 91.

Other scores for the Raiderettes were Tessa Shields, 91, Cheyenne Haveman 107, Hallie Still 113, Abbi Haley 120 and Kylee Smith 126.

The girls state meet will be May 30- June 1 at Jester Park in Granger.

Schafer places 29th at State

Abby Schafer recently competed in the girls state golf tournament over two days at Jester Park in Granger.

Schafer finished 29th overall with a total of 196 for the two days, shooting a 100 on day one and a 96 on day two.

Jester Park Golf Course is a 71 par corse over 18 holes with an average of 100.923.
