MACHS to present 'Shrek' Nov. 11-13
First performance in renovated auditorium

The fall production by the Mount Ayr Community Drama Department, "Shrek, The Musical," is set for three performances: Friday, November 11 at 7 p.m., Saturday, November 12 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, November 13 at 2 p.m.

The production will be the first in the newly renovated high school auditorium.

According to Music Theatre International, the company from which the performance rights are purchased: "Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, "Shrek, The Musical" is a Tony Award winning fairy tale adventure. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's mor to the story than meets the ears.

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek . . . And thus begins the tale of any unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a fiesty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempeed bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. MACHS drama March 10-11
'Mystery at Shady Acres' to involve audience

The Drama Department at Mount Ayr Community High School will present its spring production, "Mystery at Shady Acres or ... Carats and Crumpets" Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 at 7 p.m. both nights.

A pie auction will also be held both nights during intermission.

The comedy is described as "an audience participation mystery."

According to a description from the Pioneer Drama Service, "Your audience's help is needed to solve the baffling theft at Shady Acres, a cozy hotel tucked away in the remote English countryside in the late 1920s. The hotel staff is frantically preparing for the arrival of their most prestigious guests ever ... the wealthy and famous Fairfaxes from America. Everything seems to be going awry as the hotel is turned topsy-turvy with zany activity. Finally, hotel manager Mr. Clifford manages to usher the English Tea Garden tour group out of the lobby early and to straighten out the confusion between the Fairfaxes and the Brighthams, another pair of wealty guests. Just when he thinks everything is going smoothly, Mrs. Fairfax's valuable diamond necklace is stolen! Who could it be? And who is the mystrious man lurking about who signed the hotel register as Mr. X? The police discover that practically everyone at the hotel has a motive. Having a flamboyant but ineffective detective and his assistant arrive on the scene competing to solve the case first only makes matters worse. Good thing your audience is there to help point out the clues and analyze characters' motivations. This lighthearted 'whodunit' has enough twists and turns to make Agatha Christie smile!"
