Athletic, drama awards presented recently

Mount Ayr Community high school held its Activity Awards Night Tuesday night, May 13.

Throughout the evening, high school students were recognized for their outstanding achievements in athletics and other extra curricular activities. Recognition was given to senior, sophomore and freshmen athletic participants as well as drill team members, cheerleading members and drama club members.

Two coveted awards, the M Club Award and the Iron Raider Award, were given out as well.

To earn the M Club Award, an athlete must participate in a sport for four years of high school. Students to earn this award were Paige Daughton, Holly Karr, Leah Klejch, Brook Rychnovsky, Logan Arends, Jacob Beamgard, Erik Freed, Jack Jones, Dawson Knapp, Noah Larsen, Mason Mercer, Ryan Parrott, Casey Paxon, Matt Poore, Weston Schonoor, Trevor Shelly, Jacob Sobotka, Cody Stackhouse, Zach Vanderflught, Jacob Van Heeswyk, Quency Vos, Hagen Willis and Kyle Young.

The Iron Raider Award is given to athletes participating in at least 16 seasons of athletics (four years of four sports). Paige Daughton and Brook Rychnovsky were recognized for participation in 18 sports seasons, and Quency Vox earned the award with 16 seasons.

The Sparks drill team was honored for its state championship in the novelty division and for being recognized by the state association for its high academic achievement. Team members include senior captain Allison Wallace; junior Hannah Glendenning; sophomores Laura Davison; Kirsten Dolecheck, lieutenant Ashton Quick; freshman Haylea England, Sadie Frost and Megan Warin. Sparks membrs Ashton Quick and Haylea England were recognized for their participation in individual competition.

Senior cheerleaders Jazmine Spurrier and Bailea Stark were honored as well.

MACHS drama coach Shaun Kniep presented a number of "Oscars" to students participating in drama productions this year.

Fall awards went to Dawson Knapp, best actor; Allison Wallace, best actress; Jacob Sobotka and Tyler Triggs, best supporting actors and Jazmine Spurrier, best supporting actress. Honorary Oscars went to narrators Leah Klejch, Matt Poore and Hagen Willis and to Jacob Beamgard, named Best Newcomer to the Stage.

Spring Oscars went to Matt Poore, best actor; Shelbie Greene and Allison Wallace, best actresses; Jacob Sobotka, best supporting actor; Jazmine Spurrier and Christiana Overholtzer, best supporting actresses; Jacob Beamgard, best prince; Adrian Richards, best princess and Grant Staats, best fairy tale character.

Senior athletes honored were Logan Arends, Jacob Beamgard, Clint Bounds, Chaz Bounds, Paige Daughton, Erik Freed, Jack Jones, Holly Karr, Leah Klejch, Dawson Knapp, Noah Larsen, Mason Mercer, Ryan Parrott, Casey Paxson, Matt Poore, Naomi Richards, Brook Rychnovsky, Weston Schnoor, Trevor Shelley, Jacob Sobotka, Jazmine Spurrier, Cody Stackhouse, Bailea Stark, Zach Vanderflught, Gradon Vanderflught, Jacob VanHeeswyk, Quency Vox, Allison Wallace, Hagan Willis, Cole Wilmes and Kyle Young.

Junior athletes included Baylee Arends, Nessie Brand, Blake Butler, Conner Giles, Hannah Glendenning, Shelbie Greene, Katie Holmes, Leigh James, Ashton Johnson, Lincoln Martin, Erick Miller, Christina Overholtzer, Ashley Paxson, Ty Pollock, Kevin Ralston, Mariah Restuara, Adrian Richards, Joe Ricker, Jake Ricker, Nathan Roberts, Blake Roberts, Ben Saville, Allie Shields, Grant Staats, Alycia Thurman, Tyler Triggs, Riley Weehler and Tucker Winemiller.

Sophomore athletes that received awards were Trevor Anderson, Jay Blair, Samantha Crawford, Laura Davison, Kyle Dolecheck, Kirsten Dolecheck, Trevor Gooding, Ica Hauge, Wyatt Jackson, Levi Jarred, Lew Knapp, Macy Lilienthal, Lincoln Lutrick, Jed McCreary, Ethan McGill, Shaley Miller, Maddie Mobley, Rhett Murphy, Cheyenne Percifield, Ashton Quick, Caleb Schnoor, Logan Stark, Baylee Stark, Jacob Taylor, Jeremy Vanbuskirk, Johnathan Vanbuskirk, Miranda Waugh, Kody Weeda, Taylor Wilson, Nick Wurster, Cameron Young and Alex Young.

Freshman athletes honored were Triston Ackley, Molly Anderson, Heath Andersen, Brent Bounds, Cassie Brand, Laura Campbell, Amber Cox, Cal Daughton, Sean Davis, Gavin Dine, Haylea England, Hope Fletchall, Sadie Frost, Blair Glendenning, Breanna Haley, Michael Hanan, Cheyenne Haveman, Mike James, Mitchell Jennett, Logan Kelley, Macy Larsen, Kyler Martin, Brittany Martin, Micheala Mueller, Megan Reasoner, Devin Russo, Ashton Sheil, Kelcie Sheilds, Tessa Shields, Brylea Stark, Jacob Vanbuskirk, Megan Warin and Clay Wimer.

Top Thespian - Senior Matt Poore received the award for the top drama student from MAC drama coach Shaun Kneip.
