Some of that time was spent in a hospital in Marseilles, France, after being severely wounded in combat. He was released from service in 1945, and returned to his family in Iowa.

Wade and his family then traveled back to California and then to Oregon, where he worked for many years as a lumber grader in a sawmill, as a carpenter at Oregon State University's physical plant carpentry shop, finally retiring in 1982.

Wade was an avid fisherman and gardener, and enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends.

He is survived by Helen, his wife of 70 years; sister Dorothy SEEVERS of Albany; daughter Kathy McNURLIN of Monroe; sons David and wife, Dyana, of Philomath, Jim and wife, Cheryl, of Independence, ant Timon and wife, Terri, of Philomath; six grandchildren, Sean, Daniel, Clint, Leah, Matt and Ben; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their children.

Wade was a lifelong Baptist.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at McHenry Funeral Home. Private interment services with a military Honor Guard will take place Thursday, Nov. 12, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday at First Baptist Church, 335 S. 26th St., in Philomath.

The family asks that donations be made to the Philomath Volunteer Fire Department in care of McHenry Funeral Home.
