OBITUARY ~ MARJORIE "MARGE" (DOWELL) YASHACK

Marjorie YASHACK died peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 8, 2012 at the Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston, Iowa. She was born on September 3, 1923 in Bedford, Iowa to Irvin and Edna (PERKINS) DOWELL. She grew up on the family farm outside Diagonal and graduated from Diagonal high school in 1942.

She was united in marriage to Allen Richard YASHACK on July 15, 1943 in Grant City, Missouri. Marge and Dick were stationed in Denver, Colorado during Dick's service years where Janet, their first child, was born in 1945. After completing service duty, the couple returned to the Diagonal area and reestablished their lifetime roots.

Ronald Allen was born in 1947, Marilyn Jean in 1951 and Shelley Andrew in 1956.

Marge was a dedicated mother and homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. She was at peace with nature and loved outdoor activity of all kinds. All was done from the heart which will forever be remembered by her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

She was a superb cook with gravy, noodles, jellies and apple pie a small sample of her legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

When the children matured, Marge worked outside the home in several positions that were related to cooking. She spent a number of years in the Shamrock kitchen in Mount Ayr assisting in food preparation and making lifelong friends with her sense of humor and gentle, loving manner.

Marjorie is survived by her children, daughter Janet (husband Thomas FORD), daughter Marilyn (husband Steve WERNER) and son Shelley Andrew YASHACK; six grandchildren, Troy FORD (wife Allison), Tracy FORD, Melissa STENBERG (husband David), Amanda GETSCHMAN (husband Nick), Brandon WERNER and Kearey YASHACK; six great-grandchildren, Korby FORD, Tanner FORD, Hattie STENBERG, Noah STENBERG, Elijah STENBERG and Elliott STENBERG; brother, Don DOWELL (wife Evelyn); sister, Patty SOBOTKA (husband Wallace); two sisters-in-law, Eileen LESAN and Virginia CARDAMON, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Irvin DOWELL; father and mother-in-law, Bessie and Andrew YASHACK; husband, Dick; son, Ronnie; sisters, Mary Mae STEVENS and Betty TRIMBLE; brothers, Orville and Ivan DOWELL, and brothers-in-law, Charles LESAN, Don TRIMBLE, R. B. STEVENS and Frank CARDAMON.

A memorial has been established in her name for the Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston and the Diagonal Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services were Thursday, December 13, at the United Church of Diagonal with Rev. Edward SHIELDS officiating. Music was provided by Judy NEWTON and Deb LARSON.

Casket bearers were Troy FORD, Kearey YASHACK, Brandon WERNER, David STENBERG, Nick GETSCHMAN and Jay WATSON.

Honorary pallbearers were Tracy FORD, Melissa STENBERG, Amanda GETSCHMANN, Allison FORD and Cindy and Robert SCHLAPIA.

Burial was in the Diagonal Cemetery. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.
