OBITUARY ~ Marcia Luella (Butt) Yaryan

(source obituary)

Marcia Louella Butt, daughter of James A. and Mary E. Butt was born near Branchville Perry County IN, January 24, 1876 and passed away at her home in Diagonal, IA February 22, 1938 at the age of 62 years.

Mrs. Yaryan was the sixth child of a family of ten children. When she was four years old the family moved from the origianl home to Gibson County, IN and in 1883 when she was almost eight years old she moved with her parents in covered wagons to Jefferson Township, Ringgold County IA. In this immediate vicinity she spent the remaining years of her life with the exception of two years in Union County. May 8, 1901 she was united in marriage to John H. Yaryan, at Mt. Ayr IA. they established their home at Knowlton, living there until they came to Diagonal in 1918. To this union were born three children: Marie Louella, Ralph Watson, and Jay Rew, Ralph dying at the age of five months.

Besides her husband and the children, she is survived by seven brothers and one sister; Mrs. C. C. (Pearl) Ives, John H. Butt of Shannon, City IA, Theodore W. of Wimbleton, ND, James Solomon of Peru, IA, Charles W of Minneapolis, MN, George W., Sidney E. and Edward M of Diagonal; also a number of nephews nieces and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Francis A., who died in 1883.

Mrs. Yaryan was a member of the Baptist church at Knowlton, and after the discontinuance of that church she became affiliated with the Methodist church at Knowlton and later the Diagonal Methodist church. She was a loving and self-sacrificing wife and mother, finding her greatest pleasure in the service of her own family, but never too busy to do what she could for her friends and neighbors, assisting in times of sorrow and illness. She will be greatly missed by her friends in the community, who recognize the loss of a true friend and neighbor.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with interment in the Knowlton Cemetery.
