OBITUARY ~ DONALD EDWIN WILLEY
June 8, 1916 ~ April 18, 2012

Donald WILLEY, 95, of Creston, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at his son's home in Creston. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. Mary O'RILEY will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston, with military rites by Theodore J. Martens, Creston VFW Post #1797. Open visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012, with family receiving friends from 5:30-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to the Greater Regional Hospice Home and CARE (Creston Animal Rescue Effort). Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.

Donald Edwin WILLEY, Sr. was born June 8, 1916 in Mt. Ayr, Ia. to Agnes Mae (LONG) and John Basil WILLEY. Donald grew up in Mt Ayr and graduated from Mt. Ayr High School in 1934. On October 19, 1940, Donald was united in marriage to Thressa Marie SCHAEFER in Grant City, Mo.

He entered the U.S. Army on October 7, 1942, serving until November 30, 1945, during the Normandy Invasion.

After returning from the military, he moved to Portland, Ore., and started working for the United States Post Office, transferring to Omaha, Neb. Later, he owned and operated his own Parcel Delivery Service until 1978, moving to Creston with his wife Thressa in 1979. Donald was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Omaha and the Shriners.

Survivors include his wife, Thressa WILLEY of Creston; one son, Donald E. (wife Anne) WILLEY, Jr. of Creston; one sister, Verena WEBB of Urbandale, Ia.; two grandsons, Jason and Robert WILLEY and one great-grandson, Jackson WILLEY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Agnes WILLEY, two sisters, Mary THOMPSON and Melba JACKSON and three brothers, Orrin, Harold and J.B. WILLEY.
