OBITUARY ~ MABEL MOLLIE (PETAGO) WALTERS

Funeral services for Mabel Mollie WALTERS, age 88, were held Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Mabel died peacefully surrounded by family on November 7, 2012 at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, Iowa. She was born on December 24, 1923 in Saltillo, Mississippi to Luther and Alice PETAGO. She married Francis WALTERS on January 7, 1946 in Lake Village, Arkansas. Mabel and Francis raised their six daughters on a farm near Ellston, Iowa.

Mabel was a lover of nature, enjoying gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed the arts, especially classical music. Mabel's greatest love was being amother and grandmother. After her children were school age, Mabel worked as a nurse's aide at Mount Ayr Health Care Center for many years. Prior to that she worked in the defense plant at Boeing at Wichita, Kansas.

Mabel is survived by her daughters, Mary (Charles), Meg (Phil), Theresa, Catherine (Jeff) and Joan (Mike); 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Sr. Carolyn WALTERS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, husband Francis and one daughter, Roberta WALTERS.

NOTE: Mabel was interred at Ellston Cemetery.
