OBITUARY ~ RICHARD EUGENE WALTER

Richard WALTER, 72, passed away on July 9, 2005. Richard was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa on October 21, 1932, the seventh of eight children born to Bessie BRYAN WALTER and Everett WALTER.

After the death of his mother in 1943, Richard was taken in by Maxine and Cecil SICKELS of Mount Ayr and was treated as a son.

He is survived by Maxine and brothers, Mack, Gene and Bill SICKELS.

Richard grew up in Mount Ayr and moved to Denver, Colorado after serving in the army during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1961 and married Barbara WILSON in September that same year.

After Barbara's death, Richard reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Peggy DUFTY. He and Peggy were married in April of 1999 and returned to Iowa where he was able to once again spend time with his old friends and family and was warmly adopted by Peggy's childrne and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Peggy DUFTY WALTER; his daughter, Laura EDAIN of Seattle, Washington; son, David WALTER of Denver, Colorado; brother, Bob WALTER of Kansas City, Kansas; and sister, Edna JONES of Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Doyle, Lyle, Raymond, Glen and Jerry WALTER, Lynn SICKELS, and his wife of 36 years, Barbara.

Private graveside services will be held in Mount Ayr at the Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Richard's name to the Princess Theater in Mount Ayr. Send donations C/O Edna JONES, [address], Mount Ayr, IA 50854.
