Charles Varner Dies

Friends of the O. C. VARNER family have had word of the recent death of Charles VARNER of Calvin Manor, 4210 Hickman Road, Des Moines, Iowa. He was 83.

He died [July 2, 1992] at Iowa Methodist Medical Center of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on June 26, 1992.

The body was cremated with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery [Des Moines].

Charles Spurgeon VARNER was born at Delphos, Iowa [February 13, 1909], the oldest of five sons of O. C. and Nena (sic, should be Nina) VARNER. He lived in the Des Moines area since 1985.

He was the retired superintendent at Southeast Polk Community School District, an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge in Altoona.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, and two brothers, Clay of Green Valley, AZ., and Alvin of Bella Vista, Ark., nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, and two brothers.
