OBITUARY ~ LOU (MILLER) TOLAND

Lou Toland was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Miller, and was born at Winona, Illinois, on April 3d, 1867. She departed this life Sept. 17, 1931, at the home of her son, Sherman Toland, in Independence, Mo., aged 64 years. 5 months, 14 days.

She was united in marriage to Byard Toland, March 9, 1893. To this union were born two children Charles and Sherman. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, a kind neighbor, and an unassuming Christian.

She was received by reprofession into the membership of the Clearfield United Presbyterian Church, Nov. 15, 1914, and was certified to Independence Presbyterian Church in 1930. She was one who loved the house of God, and the fellowship of Christian people.

Funeral services were held at the Clearfield United Presbyterian Church on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 19. The pall bearers were Dan Canny, Tom House,Dave Argo, O. C. Hill, Elmer Nickle and Warren Parks. Mr. Hutchman, her former pastor, chose his text from Psalm 27: 4, which reads; "One thing have I asked of Jehovah, that will I seek after: That I may dwell in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of Jehovah, And to inquire in his temple."

Mrs. Toland is survived by four brothers and four sisters. Relatives attending the funeral were, her son, Sherman Toland; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Wyant of Perry, la., Mrs. Eva Burrington of Perry, la., and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Ogden, la., and one niece, Mrs. Wilma Bowdish of Cedar Rapids, la.

Mrs. Toland's body was laid to rest in the Clearfield Cemetery beside that of her husband who preceded her in death by only eighty-nine days
