OBITUARY - BERTHA MAE (SMITH) NICHOLS ZIMMERMAN

Bertha Mae SMITH was born on November 29, 1894, in Ringgold County, Iowa, and departed this life at the Afton Care Center on December 29, 1981, at the age of 87 years and 1 month.

She moved to a farm east of Arispe, Union County with ther parents and two brothers, John H. and Murrel L. SMITH. She attended and graduated from Afton High School in 1917.

She was united in marriage to William NICHOLS on February 7, 1918, and to this union were born two children, Howard NICHOLS and Vera EISENSTAT.

She was united in marriage to Orvel "Jim" ZIMMERMAN on September 5, 1932. To this union was born one son, Dean.

Those left to mourn her passing are her son, Dean and his wife Janis of Omaha; her daughter, Vera and her husband Charles EISENSTAT of Arizona; four grandchildren, Marla (Mrs. Al-SALAIHIM) of Kuwait; Celia MARTINO of Phoenix, Ariz.; Michael ZIMMERMAN of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Deborah ZIMMERMAN of Omaha; three great-grandchildren, Shawn ADAMS, Mallah and Nasser Al-SALIHIM, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Howard (Berniece) NICHOLS; and one niece, Phyllis CHEERS and her family; one nephew, Cecil NICHOLS and his family; her cousins, Sylvia HESS and Everett PRIMMER, and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, John and Murrell, her husband, Jim, and her one son, Howard.

Funeral services were held at the Stroud-Lindsay Funeral Home December 31 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. John LIND officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery [Afton].
