OBITUARY - REV. WALTER ZARR

American Flag.jpg The Rev. Walter ZARR, 55, of Lenox, died at his home Saturday, Nov. 1. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and discharged in 1954. Following his discharge, he began his ministry and preached at Weldon, La Salle, Woodburn, Van Wert, Massena, Bridgewater, Avondale, Kellerton, Grand River and Beaconsfield churches.

He spent 13 years at Kellerton before moving last summer to Lenox. He was the minister at the time of his death at the Lenox United Methodist Church and had preached in every United Methodist Church in Ringgold County.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Lenox; two sons, Mike of Waxahachie, Texas, and Max ZARR of Des Moines; and a daughter, Mindy (Mrs. Marty) LESAN of Kellerton.

Services were held Nov. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Mount Ayr with the Revs. Ed KAIL, Bob SHREVE and Bill COTTON officiating. Burial was in the Tingley Cemetery.

OBITUARY - REV. WALTER ZARR

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 4 at the Mt. Ayr United Methodist Church for the Rev. Walter Zarr, who died Nov. 1 at his home in Lenox. Authorities have ruled the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Rev. Zarr was pastor of the Lenox United Methodist Church. He was 55.

The Revs. Ed Kail, Bob Shreve and Bill Cotton officiated at the funeral services and burial was in the Tingley Cemetery.

Wilson-Watson Funeral Home of Mt. Ayr was in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Zarr was born May 15, 1931, in Diagonal, son of David and Bessie Lane Zarr.

He and Marlene Giles were married Oct. 22, 1951, in Tingley.

He was veteran of the Korean conflict, and began his ministry following discharge from the service in 1954.

He had served at the Weldon, La Salle, Woodburn, Van Wert, Massena, Bridgewater, Avondale, Grand River, Beaconsfield and Kellerton churches. He had been in Kellerton 13 years prior to being assigned to Lenox several months ago.

He leaves his wife, Marlene, of the home in Lenox; a daughter, Mindy Lesan of Kellerton; two sons, Mike Zarr of Waxahachie, Texas, and Max Zarr of Des Moines; a brother, Carl Zarr of Kansas City, Kan; two sisters, Lois Myers and Dorothy Myers, both of Des Moines, and two grandchildren.
