Dick was born December 10, 1922 in Mount Ayr, Iowa the son of Andrew Howard and Bessie May (STUCK) YASHACK. At age 3 years old the family moved to Lomax, Illinois for 1 year and then to Peoria, Illinois until the depression hit and they moved back to rural Mount Ayr. In the summer of 1933 the family moved to Diagonal where Dick resided the rest of his life.

His talents are seen in many local kitchens, churches, and private homes. The family cherishes his many gifts made with loving hands.

In April of 1953 he applied for the Postmaster vacancy in the Diagonal Post Office, was named Acting postmaster and received the permanent appointment in May of 1954. He retired from the Postal Service in August 1980 and worked in the First State Bank from January 1981 through December 1985.

Throughout his lifetime Dick participated in several organizations. He was a member of the Mount Ayr Masonic Lodge for 50 years, the American Legion for 50 years, and the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club for 58 years. Dick was an avid golfer and played at every opportunity.
