MRS. J. U. WYANT RITES IN LENOX

Mrs. J[ames] U[riah] WYANT, 96, a resident of Bedford, Lenox and Clearfield for many years, died at her home in Leon, Friday night, April 14. Mrs. WYANT fell at her home recently and had been in failing health since that time.

Funeral services were held at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox at 1:30 p. m., Monday, April 17. Rev. John GILL of Leon officiated. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Margaret Alice, daughter of Hugh and Florinda (CAMPBELL) LONG, was born in Mercer County, Penn., Feb. 15, 1865, and passed away at the age of 96 years and two months. She was the last survivor of 10 children.

The LONG family came to Iowa in 1877. She attended Tarkio College and taught for many years in the schools of Taylor and Ringgold counties.

On December 9, 1891, she was united in marriage with James U[riah] WYANT. To this union were born five children, Hugh B[ruce] of Lenox, Mrs. Ruth GRAHAM and G[eorge] A[llen] of Leon, Orville, who passed away in 1950 and Helen in 1949.

She was a life-long member of the United Presbyterian Church, serving faithfully in Sabbath school and in the women’s organizations. She devoted herself to the Christian education of her children in the home and was a true friend to her neighbors wherever she lived. Her loyalty to her family was one of her strongest characteristics.

With the exception of three years in California and a short time in Ironwood, Mich., her life was spent in Iowa, the past 12 years in Leon.

Those left to mourn her passing are two sons, one daughter, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter.
