OBITUARY - ANN PRENTIS WITTMANN

Margaret Anne PRENTIS WITTMANN, 68, 4141 South Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, died at home after a short illness. She was born May 27, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of X. T. and Gladys TENNANT PRENTIS. When she was six months old the family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa, where they continued to reside. After Anne's graduation from Mount Ayr High School in 1937, she attended one year at Sioux Falls College in South Dakota and finished her formal education at the State University of Iowa.

At an early age she gave her life to Christ, and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Ayr, Iowa. She continued steadfast in her faith, having taught Sunday school classes and Bible studies wherever she lived. At the time of her death, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach. Before coming to New Smyra Beach, she and her husband were members of the Greenwich Baptist Church in Greenwich, Connecticut, and just recently they attended the 25th anniversary of that church.

Anne and Richard C. WITTMANN of Lincoln, Nebraska, were united in marriage in the Army Chapel at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, on February 26, 1942, where Dick was stationed as a Captain. Dick became a Regular Army officer and they traveled over much of the world together in various assignments until his military retirement as a Colonel in 1962, after which he entered a 17-year career with IBM in New York, while they lived in Stamford, Connecticut. They have since enjoyed a wonderful 9-year retirement, moving to New Smyrna Beach in 1985, where they made their new home. They spent their summer months on Pelican Lake in Minnesota, where they attended the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church, and have many friends.

Surviving are her husband, Richard C. WITTMANN; their daughter, Barbara, and her husband, C. Timothy BLANCHARD and their children, Jean and David, of Wheaton, Illinois; their son, James Richard WITTMANN and his wife, Susan, and their two children, Elizabeth and Sarah, of Greenwich, Connecticut; her mother, Gladys PRENTIS of Mount Ayr, Iowa; a sister, Jean and her husband, Wes REGER, of Horseheads, New York; and two brothers, Richard PRENTIS and wife, Marjorie of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Raymond PRENTIS and his wife, Patricia, of Ottumwa, Iowa. Anne is also survived by her husband's brother, Julius and wife, Audrey, of Sequim, Washington, and twin brother, Herbert and his wife, Theresa, of Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as his oldest brother, Wilfrid's widow, Ollie WITTMANN of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also thirteen nieces and nephews survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 18, 1988, from the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa, with Dr. C. Timothy BLANCHARD officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Keith SACKETT, Mrs. Gary BICKERS and Mrs. Roger TRULLINGER.

Casketbearers were Doyal GREGG, Joe ROBISON, Tim PRENTIS, Rodger WITTMANN, Bob MUELLER and LeRoy ALEXANDER. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
