OBITUARY - BASIL NEIL WILLIS

Basil Neil WILLIS, third child of Dallas (SNETHEN) and Loren WILLIS, was born February 22, 1927 in Harrison County, Missouri,and passed away February 1, 1987, in Minnespolis, Minnesota, of cancer following a short illness.

The family moved to Maloy, Iowa, when Basil was six-month-old. He attended elementary school in Maloy until sixth grade, then transferred to Mount Ayr, where he graduated with the class of 1945. He became a member of the First Christian chuch in his early teens and retained his membership there until his death.

Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge at the end of World War II. He worked in San Fransico, California, for the American President Steamship Lines until he was recalled to Navy duty during the Korean conflict; returning to the Steamship Lines after his discharge.

In 1957, he was married to Marjorie ROBINETTE. They lived in the Novato and Santa Rosa, California areas.

Basil became a member of the Moose Lodge in Santa Rosa about 1960 and later served as the secretary of the Anaheim Lodge and the Santa Rosa Lodge, prior to joining the tahe auditing staff of the Moose Lodges. He had been an auditor for the Lodge for the past twenty years, working in all but eight of the Continental United States.

Basil was preceded in death by his father in 1937; his brother, Frank, in 1950; his wife, Marjorie, in 1975; and his mother in 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Minneapolis; a sister, Wilma WILSON and her husband Rick of Corona, California; a brother Jerry and his wife, JoAnne, of Missoula, Montana; four nephews, Steve, Mike and Martin WILSON, and Loren WILLIS; one niece, Barbara WILLIS; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

The funeral was held from the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel of Minneapolis on February 5. The Pilgrim Order of the Moose, the highest order given to a Moose member, conducted a memorial service. Interment was in Valley Memorial Park, Novato, California.
