OBITUARY - MERLIN "DALE" & KATHY J. (DENTON) WHITSON

Dale WHITSON, 75, of Thayer, died and was found Monday, November 10, 2008 at his home.

Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at the Powers Funeral Home Jct. of Hwys. 34 & 25 Creston. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Flag presentation will be by the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797 of the Creston V.F.W.

Memorials can be made to the Diabetes Association. Online condolences can be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.

Merlin Dale WHITSON, was born February 24, 1933 in Beaconsfield, Iowa to Alice (SCOTT) WHITSON and Leroy M. WHITSON. Dale graduated from Beaconsfield High School. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

On January 15, 1961, he married Kathy J. DENTON in Creston. They settled in Beaconsfield and farmed until 1970, when they moved to Creston. While in Creston, he and Kathy co-owned and operated WHITSON'S Service. In 1998 they moved to Spring Valley Lake and returned to farming. Dale was also a pilot for many years. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization.

Survivors include two daughters, Susie W. BOOTH of Evanston, Wyoming and Melanie J. (husband Troy) HERVEY of Frederick, Colo.; three grandchildren, Mack BOOTH, Morgan and Mollie HERVEY; two brothers, Keith (wife Beth) WHITSON and Raymond (wife Sandy) WHITSON, both of Beaconsfield; one sister, Norma OSBORN of Independence, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Patti (husband Arnold) NELSON of Van Buren, Ark.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, Tracy BOOTH, and one brother-in-law, Bob OSBORN.

On January 15, 1961, she married Merlin Dale WHITSON in Creston. They settled in Beaconsfield where she was a homemaker and farmed until 1970 when they moved to Creston. While in Creston, she and Dale were co-owners of WHITSON'S Service, where she served as the bookkeeper. In 1998 they moved to Spring Valley Lake and returned to farming.

Survivors include two daughters, Susie W. BOOTH of Evanston, Wyo. and Melanie J. (husband Troy) HERVEY of Frederick, Colo.; three grandchildren, Mack BOOTH, Morgan and Mollie HERVEY; a sister, Patti (husband Arnold) NELSON of Van Buren, Ark.; two brothers-in-law, Keith (wife Beth) WHITSON and Raymond (wife Sandy) WHITSON, both of Beaconsfield; one sister-in-law, Norma OSBORN of Independence, Mo.
