OBITUARY - ELMER GLEN WENDELL

Elmer Glen WENDELL, oldest son of Lester and Katie WENDELL, was born at Triplett, Missouri, June 10, 1920. He spent most of his early life at Delphos, Iowa. He was employed by CB&Q Railroad at Delphos for three years.

On July 17, 1940, he and Elizabeth Irene HARTMAN were married at Grant City, Missouri.

He was employed by Colonial Bakery in Des Moines, Iowa, until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in November, 1942, at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He served three years, 15 months in the South Pacific, participating in battles of New Guinea and Luzon, Philippines. He was discharged in November, 1945, at Ft. Logan, Colorado.

He graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, and taught Veterans on the Farm Training for five years at Ruthven, Iowa.

He began working for Farmers Home Administration, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture at Hillsboro, Oregon, in September, 1958, working as Supervisors in McMinnville, Oregon; Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Oroville, California. He retired in March, 1985 and moved to Clallam Bay, Washington in November, 1985.

He served as Scout Master for Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts for five years in Little Rock and Sebastopol, California.

He passed away July 28, 1987, at Rouge Valley Medical Center in Medford, Oregon, with complications after heart surgery.

He leaves his wife, Elizabeth; four children -- Linda RUFF, Lancaster, Calif.; William, Salem, Ore.; Keryl COTTINI, Weed, Calif.; and Michael, Clallam Bay, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Kenneth, Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Dorthea CARTER, Shingletown, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

Interment was in Redding Cemetery, Redding Calif., August 3, 1987, with arrangements by McDonalds Chapel. Officiating was VFW, 20th Honor Guard.
