OBITUARY - PAUL WEEDA
Paul Arie WEEDA, son of Gysberg and Mabel WEEDA, was born November 10, 1912, on a farm near Tingley, and passed
away Nov. 18, 1983 at the Afton Care Center at the age of 71.
At an early age, he was baptized at the Tingley United Methodist Church, which he was still a member at the time of his
He was united in marriage to Helen SWANK on July 20, 1935. To this union were born two sons, Kenneth and
Keith. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1957.
On April 14, 1958, he was united in
marriage to Darlene GREIMANN. They were blessed with two daughters, Teresa and Linda.
Paul was a farmer in Ringgold and Union counties, which he totally enjoyed for many years. In addition to his farming, he
worked for the ASC office, drove a school bus, was a township assessor, and sold seed corn.
In 1973, because of poor
health, he retired from farming and made [a] new residence in Afton. Since he enjoyed being around people and was
very ambitious, he took part-time employment at Easter's Family Center in Creston.
He was a charter member of the
Tingley and Afton Lions Clubs where he received several awards and recognitions.
One of his greatest pastimes was
playing cards with his friends, family and neighbors.
Paul was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and
enjoyed having his yard full of playing youngsters. He got a lot of enjoyment from attending school activies and county
fairs. He once remarked, "There sure are a lot of good kids in this world."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his mother and father; and brother, Clarence.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Darlene; his sons, Kenneth and wife Marylin of Tingley, and Keith and wife,
Cindy of Omaha, Neb.; and his daughters, Teresa KURTZ and husband Chris of Oregon, Mo., and Linda GRANDFIELD and
husband, Jeff of Lorimor. Also among his survivors are brothers and sisters, Ernest WEEDA of Des Moines, Howard WEEDA
of Manhattan, Kansas, Gladys EGGLESTON of Willmar, Minn., Neal WEEDA of Afton, and Lucy GARLAND of Des Mones;
six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
A service was held at the United Methodist Church in Tingley, Iowa, Monday, Nov. 21, 1983. Officiating were
Rev. Dwight BONHAM and Rev. John LING. Music was by Patience HASTIE and Don WILSON.
Casketbearers were Carl RIGGS, Merel WITT, George WEIS, Jack WHITED, Richard SIDDENS, and Billy BRECKENRIDGE.
Burial was in the Tingley Cemetery at Tingley, Iowa.
