The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1927

OBITUARY - MRS. A. WEEDA.

Weeda gravestone.jpg Ellen Van VLIET was born in Holland on June 22, 1851, and departed this life at her home in Tingley, Iowa, on February 10, 1927, at the age of 75 years, seven months and 19 days.

At the age of three years she came with her parents to Pella, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. On March 24th, 1871, she was united in marriage to Arie WEEDA at Pella, Iowa, where they lived until the spring of 1896 when the family moved to a farm near Tingley, Iowa, where they lived until the fall of 1918 when she and her husband moved to Tingley to spend their remaining years.

Twelve children blessed this home, two having died in infancy and one son departed this life on November 12, 1924. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and nine children, six sons and three daughters, namely: Dick, C. N., G. B., L. R., and B. D., all of Tingley, Iowa, and John of Bakersfield, Calif. and Mrs. Maggie ECKERMAN, Mrs. Nancy BORRUSCH, both of Tingley, Iowa, and Mrs. Nellie SHERWOOD of Wood, South Dakota, and also thirty-five grandchildren and one great grandchild; one brother of Pella, Iowa, a number of other relatives an a host of friends.

From the earliest years of her life she was good. At the age of 14 years she became converted to Christ and although not being affiliated with any church organization here, she had her membership in Heaven with the Church Triumphant, bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. She was a devoted wife and a kind and loving mother and a kind hearted friend to everyone she knew. To know her was to love her. She lived a life of self-denial, always thinking of others and forgetting herself. Although she has been taken from us, we sorrow not as those who have no hope, for we know that mother fell asleep in Jesus and she will rise in the resurrection morn with a glorified body and be forever with the Lord, and know that we will meet her again if we follow her example.

Her life was so abundant in love and loyalty to her dear ones that it is hard to realize that her activities here are over. Her memory is cherished for the womanly sweetness of her nature and the unselfish devotion to her children. She will ever live in the hearts of those who loved her.

O, dear mother, how we miss you
Since you went away today;
O, how lonesome is our home
Which is all in sadness now.
O, dear mother, how we miss you,
Miss your tender words and cares;
You who shared our joys and happiness,
And in our troubles counseled there.
O, dear mother, how we miss you,
Miss your face so kind and true;
Miss those hands that were always busy,
Though so cold and silent now.
O, dear mother, how we miss you,
Though to your Savior you have gone,
And may we all meet you there
In that happy home.
