OBITUARY - MARY CALLISTA SHAY WARIN

Mary Callista SHAY WARIN was born December 18, 1910, to Robert Emmett SHAY and Margaret Ellen (HART) SHAY on the family farm near Maloy, Iowa. She graduated in 1928 from Maloy High school and from Ottumwa Heights Junior College in 1930 with an associate arts degree in education.

Mary taught school in Dunlap, Iowa for two years and then on August 18, 1932, married John WARIN at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Maloy. Following her marriage, she taught in a Taylor county rural school for four years and then did substitute teaching for many years in the Maloy elementary school.

In 1986, Mary moved to Atlantic, Iowa where she lived for 11 years. Mary was active in her church, in the Altar Society, in Right To Life, and in the parish quilting club. She moved to Johnston, Iowa in October 1997 and then to Clearview Home in Mount Ayr in October 1998 where Mary passed away on January 29, 2001.

Mary Warin is survived by her three daughters, Rita (husband Ken) REASONER of Urbandale, Iowa, Rosemary (husband Keith) LEONARD of Atlantic, Iowa, and Joan (husband Tom) ROETS of Naples, Florida; two sisters, Rita SHAY of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Sister Rosemary SHAY CHM of Johnston; one brother Robert SHAY of Creston, Iowa; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Warin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant son, John Thomas WARIN.

A mass of the resurrection was held Friday, February 2, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mount Ayr, with celebrants Father Mark REASONER, Father Thomas DOOLEY and Monsignor Lawrence BEASON. The lector was Mike REASONER and musicians were Mary Pat REASONER and Nancy SACKETT. Gift bearers were Carol SHELDON and John T. MOORE. Casket bearers were Dan REASONER, Beth GEIS, Meg CORBIN, Doug LEONARD, David LEONARD, Kate GETTY and Mary Pat REASONER.

Mary was laid to rest in the St. Mary Cemetery, Maloy.
