OBITUARY - ALFRED LE"ROY" WADELL

American Flag.jpg Alfred Le"Roy" WADDELL, 85 of Creston died Sept. 26, 2007 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery. The Rev. Tim DODSON of Menomonie, Wisc and Mary O'RILEY, Hospice Chaplain will officiate the services. Burial with Military rites by VFW Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797 will be in Graceland Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 9 pm today with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 pm today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Greater Regional Hospice Home. LeRoy "Roy" WADDELL, son of Nellie May (WATTS) and Alfred Otho WADDELL, was born April 6, 1922, at Knowlton, Ringgold County, Iowa. In 1938, Roy married Josephine GROVES in Grant City, Mo. They later divorced. On April 12, 1947, Roy married Fern Evelyn SCHOFIELD in Creston.

Roy was a longtime resident of Union County. He owned and operated F & R Trucking and Western Iron Metal in Creston. He drove for Hamm's Beer, Southern Iowa Trolley and later worked as shop supervisor until retiring.

He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 26, 1942 to Jan. 10, 1946, during World War II. He received four overseas service bars, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one silver battle star. Good conduct medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles, all of Creston.

Survivors include a special loved one, Marcie TYLER of Creston; three daughters, Helen Mae WADDELL (friend Scott COLEMAN) and Mary (husband Bernie) WHITE, all of Creston, and Donna (husband Ron) FOGLE of Surprise, Ariz.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughters Connie Jean McNICHOLS and Patty (DODSON) CHEVELLE; long time friend Junior "Amos" DAUB, and Great-granddaughter Destiny MILLER.
