OBITUARY - LINNABELL VIRGINIA (OSHEL) TRIDLE
On February 4, 191 0 Linnabell Virginia was born to John H. and Elsie OSHEL on a farm near Orient, Iowa in Adair county.
She was the eldest of 11 children. At a young age she moved with her parents to a farm three miles north of Diagonal,
Iowa. She attended schools in Adair county and the Willow Grove school north of Diagonal.
In 1929 as a young woman she moved to Maxwell, Nebraska where she met her future husband William TRIDLE. They were married
on February 15, 1933 in Grant City, Missouri while on a visit to her parents. They returned to Maxwell, Nebraska where
Linnabell cooked on a ranch and at a restaurant. Their son William Jr. was born on January 16, 1939 in North Platte,
Nebraska. In 1941 they purchased a farm near Benton, Iowa where they farmed for the next 40 years. They had four daughters,
Virginia, Carolyn, Ruth and Betty.
Linnabell and Bill celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983. In May of 1987 Bill passed away. Linnabell remained
on the farm till January, 1996 when she moved to the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
She is survived by her son William Jr. and (wife Maxine) of Orient; daughters, Virginia CARSON (husband Jack) of Diagonal,
Carolyn TRIDLE of Gladstone, Missouri, and Betty KOHRT (husband Kalin) of Spokane, Washington; 16 grandchildren and 26
great-grandchildren; five sisters, Fern MILLER of Creston, Dorothy INGRAHAM of Webster City, Alice SHANNON of Boone, Joyce
ABBOTT of Creston and Norma BUTCHER of Des Moines; and one brother Clyde OSHEL of Murray.
Linnabell was preceeded in death by her father John, mother Elsie, her brothers Roy, Ralph, Vern and John, her daughter
Ruth, daughter-in-law Daisy and grandson-in-law Ronny GARNER.
Linnabell was a long time member of the Rebecca Lodge, H.A.T. Club, volunteered for many years for the Cancer Society, and
was a member of the Diagonal Christian Church and their Thursday Quilting Club.
Linnabell was a helpmate on the farm. She always had a large garden and was an excellent cook. Everyone loved her pies,
cakes, breads and especially her homemade noodles. Whenever anyone visited there was always a cup of coffee and one of her
wonderful breads or desserts. When her daughters Betty and Ruth came for a visit there was always their favorite raspberry
Linnabell loved her cats. You could find her each morning and evening calling her kitties to come and eat.
She was always happy when a stray showed up at her door.
Services were at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Tuesday, October 12, 1999 with Reverend Eydie
STEPHENS officiating. Judy NEWTON and Sue TRIDLE provided music.
Casketbearers were Duane PINE, Kevin KILGORE, Wallace SOBOTKA, Richard MOTSINGER, Bill ANDREWS and Bob ANDREWS. Honorary
pallbearers were Billy TRIDLE, Paul KILGORE, Terry PINE, Scott TRIDLE, Sean KILGORE, Darin GOINS and Tye DOUDY.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Nevinville [Adams County], Iowa.
