JAMES EDWIN "JIM" TOWZEY

American Flag.jpg James Edwin TOWZEY, son of Thomas & Hilda (BANKUS) TOWZEY, was born May 11, 1932 at Connellsville, Pennsylvania. Jim graduated from high school and served his country in the U.S. Navy for 8 years during the time of the Korean conflict. Jim was trained as a scrub nurse in the Navy.

Jim occupation was a master machinist but his love was for music. He was an accomplished banjo player. Jim played in country western and bluegrass bands. They played in Nashville, Cleveland, West Virginia to name a few and even made it onto TV shows. Jim had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. Rarely did a visit end without Jim telling at least one joke. Jim has made Diagonal his home for the last 10 years.

Jim was diagnosed with cancer at the start of 2007 and on June 1, 2007, he passed away at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jim is survived by his wife of 23 years Dorothy TOWZEY of Diagonal; sons Tom TOWZEY of Greensburg, PA, Richard BROCK of Salty Harbor, FL, and Lawrence BROCK of Holiday, FL; daughters Kathy of Connellsville, PA, Marcia CROSSER of Iowa City, IA, and Marlene DOYLE & husband John of Creston, IA; grandchildren Josh TOWZEY of Greensburg, PA, Gunnery Sgt. Donald & Dianna CROSSER, USMC, of Quantico, VA, Dorothy & Joe JURGENS of Iowa City, Denice & Nick CHAPIN, USMC, of Okinawa, Japan, Michael RAMSEY of Tampa, FL, Andrew BROCK of Diagonal, Chris BROCK of Florida, and Sara Mae BROCK of Florida; great-grandchildren Emily, Jessica, Derek, and Isabel; two sisters Josephine KEYS and Alma HENRY of Connellsville, PA; other relatives and friends.

Services were held Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. from Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
