OBITUARY - BERTHA TONEY

Bertha Catherine TONEY was born May 2, 1892, in Harrison County, Missouri, and died March 8, 1964, in the Decatur County hospital at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella DeVRIES; her sister, Jessie, and brothers Carl, John and Benne.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Frank, and sons, Gerald and family of Carlisle, Iowa; Jay and family of Lamoni; and Thurman and family of Des Moines; also her sisters, Sadie PRIEST of Leon; Rhea PETTY of Mount Ayr; Mrs. Ada EVERSALL of Stuart, Iowa; Mrs. Edwin BUCKHOLDT of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Leona WEST of Beatrice, Neb.; her brother, Arthur DeVRIES of Kellerton, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of neighbors and friends.

Bertha grew to womanhood in the Bloomington community and was united in marriage to Frank TONEY on February 18, 1913. On Feb. 18, 1963, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in their new home in Lamoni.

Bertha was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and exemplified her faith in God by helping those who were less fortunate than she. The Lord blessed her with one last burst of strength two weeks before her passing which was spent doing the things she loved best - making beautiful decorations for her family and friends which will long be remembered.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 11 at the RLDS church. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery [Lamoni, Iowa].
