Mount Ayr Record
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
October, 1934

DEATH of THOMAS CONLEY OCCURRED LAST FRIDAY EVE.

Passed Away at Home in Knowlton After Illness of Several Months.

Thomas CONLEY of Knowlton died about 5:30 Friday evening at his home, after an illness of several months. The serious nature of his illness had been known to relatives and friends who had known for some time that there were no hopes for his recovery.

Destined to perform the lesser duties of an earthly existence, Mr. CONLEY was conscientious in the performance of his duties until illness and suffering made work impossible for him. He took great pleasure in associating with his friends, who likewise found in him a cheerful and sympathetic nature.

He will be sorely missed by his wife and children, and by others in the community. The following obituary was read at the funeral services, which were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. A. L. JORDAN presiding:

OBITUARY

Thomas Hartful CONLEY, son of Rensie and Sophia CONLEY, was born near Diagonal, Iowa, Sept. 12, 1878 and passed on Oct. 12, 1934, at the age of 56 years and one month.

He was united in marriage with Ettie May BISHER Nov. 19, 1905. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Lenora CHEERS of Arispe, Iowa, and Cecil CONLEY of Pasadena, Cal.

Mr. CONLEY was united in marriage to Cora B. KELLER, February 9, 1920. To this union four children were born, one son, Gilbert Gail, preceded his father in death. The surviving children are Vesta Maxine, Retha Marie, Donald Everett and Marjorie Geraldean. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Mr. CONLEY was the last member of a family of five children.

Interment was made in the Knowlton [Centenary] cemetery.

I know not what the future hath,
Of marvel or surprise,
Assured alone that life and death
His mercy underlies.
And so beside the silent sea I wait the muffled oar,
No harm from Him can come to me,
On ocean or on shore.

We wish to express our thanks to the many kind neighbors and friends who assisted in so many ways during the illness and death of our husband and father, also for the beautiful floral offerings. We wish also to thank our physician, who was so faithful and ready in his ministrations.
