OBITUARY - ARLENE ESTHER (JENSEN) THOMAS

Arlene E. THOMAS, 73, died Saturday, December 6 (2003), in the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital at Humboldt.

Funeral service for her was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the united Methodist Church at LuVerne with the Rev. Remigio P. PANLAQUI officiating. Burial was in the LuVerne Cemetery, the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral home of LuVerne in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Keith HARMS, Tracy LAWLER, Chip SEAY, Mike LAWLER, Jim McGREAN and Nicole SEAY.

Arlene Esther, daughter of Nels and Anna (HAGGEN) JENSEN, was born October 24, 1930, at Goldfield, IA. Her family moved to LuVerne when she was very young and she graduated from LuVerne High School in 1949.

Arlene was married to Donald THOMAS at Goldfield on December 8, 1962. She was an active member of the LuVerne United Methodist Church, serving as past president of the UMW; the evening circle and she served three years on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. Arlene was formerly a member of the LuVerne American Legion Auxiliary and she volunteered for the LuVerne Ambulance and the Community Chest. She enjoyed raising flowers and houseplants, baking and canning.

Surviving are her husband, Donald and seven children; Anna Marie HARMS, Waukee; Randy and Pat THOMAS, LuVerne; Rebecca Thomas, Omaha, NE; Donna and Jim McGREAN, Johnston; Orville THOMAS, Rolfe; Diane and Nick LAUBENTHAL, Linn Grove and the Rev. Susan THOMAS of Mount Ayr. She has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include a brother, Neal JENSEN and his wife, Catherine of Bear, DE. A son, Ricky THOMAS; a grandson, Lynn THOMAS; her parents, a sister, Alice VORLAND and a brother, Donald JENSEN, preceded her in death.
