OBITUARY - JOYCE MARIE (JOHNSON) TALTY

Joyce Marie TALTY, age 73, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Hospice with Heart Hospice House in Glenwood, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

Joyce was born August 22, 1936, in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, to the late Clifford and Genevieve (MITCHELL) JOHNSON. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1954. On November 14, 1959, Joyce married Emmett TALTY at St. Patrick's Church in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with five children, Jeanine, Joan, Janet, Jerry and Judy. Joyce was a loving wife and mother whose greatest happiness was spending time with her family. Together with her husband Emmett, of 50 years, they provided a lasting and rare example of a completely devoted marriage.

A gifted dancer, Joyce began teaching dance to children at the age of 15 in her mothers' basement, founding the Johnson Dance School in Council Bluffs. This was a career that continued 40 years throughout her adulthood, and a love that she passed on to hundreds of students as well as her own children. She later worked at "Curves" in Council Bluffs, where she enjoyed reconnecting with many of her former dance students. Joyce was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Nathan Michael.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Emmett TALTY; daughters, Jeanine (Lee) TOOLE, all of Council Bluffs, Joan (Scott) NOELLER, of Vinton, Iowa, Janet (Joe) TAIT, of Clarinda, Iowa, Judy (Doug) SHORT, of Omaha; son, Jerry (Julie) TALTY, of Papillion, Neb.; 17 grandchildren, Justin, Lindsey, and Eric TOOLE, Corey, Clare, and Charley COOLING, Tess and Sean NOELLER, Javi and Jordan TAIT, Michelle, Jared, Lori, and Sarah TALTY, Rollie KELLER, Wesley and Lillian SHORT; brother, Jim (Gayla) JOHNSON, of Council Bluffs; sister, Janice (Fritz) TIARKS, of Harlan, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Wake service, Monday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Fr. David FlLEMING, pastor as the celebrant. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery with a luncheon following at the parish hall. The family will direct memorials.
