WILLIAM TALLEY DIES SUDDENLY

William Ward TALLEY, 74, Eureka [KS] produce man, died unexpectedly at his home in Eureka Friday, Nov. 14th. He was the son of Isaac A[rment]. and Nancy [Ellen (KELLER)] TALLEY and was born at Diagonal, Iowa, March 26, 1873.

He was born in a farm home and spent most of his life on the farm the early part of his life in Iowa and then moved to Eureka, Kans. locting (sic) on a farm southwest of town in the year 1906. In the fall of 1925 he came to Eureka where he has been in the feed and produce business since that time.

He became a member of the Methodist church when just a child and maintained a constant and active relationship to the church through all the remaining years of his life. He served as trustee, served on the finance committee, and was treasurer of the church for several years.

He was married March 4, 1896 [Diagonal IA], to Melissa Jane CODDINGTON and three children were born to them: Lee who died at 8 years of age, Kenneth of Wichita, and Lola of Eureka. There is also one grandson.

They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 4, 1946.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and family; also four sisters: Mrs. Ella MYERS, Ansley, Nebr., Mrs. Cora PRICE, Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Catherine WORRELL, Batesville, Ark., Mrs. Jessie CHIVINGTON, Oelwein, Iowa; and three brothers, J. W. TALLEY, Arcaria, Calif., Rev. M. R. TALLEY, Denton, Texas, Dr. L. F. TALLEY, Marshalltown, Iowa. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Farmington Grange and also of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Memorial services were held at the First Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Nov. 16, at 4 o'clock, with Rev. A. W. JOHNSON in charge. There were over 300 in attendance. Burial was in the Greenwood cemetery at Eureka.

Out-of-town persons who attended the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. G. W. WORRELL, Batesville, Ark.; Rev. and Mrs. M. R. TALLEY, Denton, Tex.; Mrs. Jessie CHIVINGTON, Oelwein, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. H. E. HILL and family, Coffeyville; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. WELSH, Mullenville; Mr. and Mrs. Amos OTT, El Dorado; Mr. and Mrs. William DANIELS, Chanute; Mr. and Mrs. D. INGRAM, Wichita.

NOTE: Melissa Jane (CODDINGTON) TALLEY was born January 3, 1876, Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Damaris (STEVENSON) CODDINGTON, and died at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 7 days on October 10, 1954, Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. Lee Claudius TALLEY was born March 8, 1899, Diagonal, Ringgold County, Iowa, and died at the age of 8 years, 5 months, 15 days on August 23, 1907, Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Kenneth Carl TALLEY was born on September 23, 1904, Diagonal, Ringgold COunty, Iowa, and died at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 8 days, on July 1, 1973, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Kansas. Lola Naomi TALLEY was born May 4, 1910, Eureka, Kansas, and died at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 5 days on January 9, 1996, Eureka, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Kansas.
