OBITUARY ~ MILDRED SELMA "MILLIE" (SWENSON) STORHOFF
Mildred "Millie" Selma STORHOFF was born May 21, 1918 to Peter and Caroline SWENSON of Nome, North Dakota.
She was the third of three daughters and had a younger brother whom she was very fond of.
Millie was raised
in Nome and graduated from Nome high school in 1936. She attended college in Jamestown, North Dakota majoring
in business. She worked as a medical receptionist after college. Later she lived in Portland, Oregon and
worked in the ship building industry during the early years of WWII.
Mildred and Edwin "Harry" STORHOFF were
married October 15, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Churchin Nome, North Dakota. To this union three sons were born.
Eddie and Millie lived in Duluth, Minnesota for 11 years before moving back to the Storhoff family farm in
North Dakota. They farmed in the Nome area for 23 years.
Millie was the church secretary for several years
at Saint Petri Lutheran Church, rural Nome, where they were members as well as a mother and homemaker.
and Millie retired to Valley City, North Dakota in 1978 and sold their farm to North Dakota Wetlands. They
traveled extensively during their retirement.
After Edwin's death, Mildred wintered in Texas with her son,
Steve. Millie moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa in September 2008 and entered Clearview Nursing Home in 2010.
passed away peacefully on December 19, 2012.
Millie is survived by sons, Steven of Weslaco, Texas and
Gregory (Crystal) of Mount Ayr, Iowa and daughter-in-law, Linda (Gary) of Danbury, Connecticut; grandchildren,
Danielle of Danbury, Connecticut, Wesley (Teresa) of White Plains, New York, Vanessa (Bradley) SMITH of
Kellerton, Iowa, Timothy of Kansas City, Missouri and Garrett (Jamie) of Beaufort, South Carolina, and
great-grandchildren, Byanca, Angelina and Shaylinn SMITH of Kellerton.
Mildred was preceded in death by her
parents; husband; brothers, Melvin and Palmer; sisters, Mabel (Leroy) RUDE, Gladys (MF) PETERSON and
Claudine (Harold) LARVICK, and son, Gary.
A memorial service will be at North Dakota at a later date.
Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
