Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY ~ T. J. STEPHENS

Thomas Jefferson STEPHENS, son of Stacy and Belle STEPHENS, was born September 12, 1891, at Delphos, Iowa, and passed away November 21, 1973, in the Ringgold County Hospital at the age of 82 years.

He was a lifelong resident of Ringgold county, except during a period of active duty with the United States Armed Forces in France during World War I. During the last twelve years, Mr. STEPEHNS had resided in the Mount Ayr Hotel.

Mr. STEPHENS was engaged in farming in Rice township throughout his life. He was a member of the Delphos Baptist Church and of the American Legion for more than 50 years. He will be remembered as an active and respected member of his community.

His parents, a brother, George, and three sisters, Nettie ROBERTS, Ella RICHARDSON and Anna DEIBERT, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a brother, Clarence STEPHENS of Delphos and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held November 24, from the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Orville RINEHART of Bethany, Mo. Kenneth BURRIGHT sang, accompanied at the organ by Margaret PENCE, and casektbearers were George DEIBERT, Weldon RICHARDSON, Donald E. STEPHENS, Arthur DEIBERT, Lee ROBERTS and Donald S. STEPHENS. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, where graveside services were conducted by the American Legion and VFS Posts.
