PEARL (HAWTHORNE) STEPHENSON

Funeral services for Mrs. Jack Stevenson. 69, who died at the Clarinda Municipal hospital Sunday Oct. 1, were held the following Monday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church at Clearfield, with Rev. C. P. Hoffman officiating. Burial was in the Clearfield cemetery. A member of the Federated Modern Literary club, she had formerly taught in the grades there and was the music supervisor. She was born in Ringgold county but spent most of her life in the Clearfield vicinity. Surviving are her husband, a druggist in Clearfield for many years, and one brother, Dr. C. E. Hawthorne, pastor of the United Presbyterian church in Clarinda.

OBITUARY ~ PEARL (HAWTHORNE) STEPHENSON

Pearl Hawthorne, the daughter of James A. and Lois Hawthorne, was born March 1, 1881 near Shannon City and departed this life Oct. 1, 1950 at the Municipal hospital in Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 61 years, 7 months.

She was a graduate of Tarkio, Mo. high school and later from Missouri Wesleyan College of Cameron, Mo. For a number of years she was supervisor of music in Clearfield, as well as teacher in the school.

On Sept. 14, 1904 she was married to John M. Stephenson and their home has been in Clearfield. Mrs. Stephenson was active in business and social activities. She was a consistent member of the United Presbyterian church where she led in music for many years.

Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing one brother, C. E. Hawthorne, and wife, two nephews, Robert Hawthorne of Bakersfield, Calif., and Donald C. Hawthorne of Princeton, N. J., other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the United Presbyterian church, Rev. C. Hoffman officiating. Burial was in Clearfield cemetery.
