Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY ~ MRS. L. E. STEPHENS

Lola Maude, daughter of E. and Jennie SPENCER, was born January 24, 1890, near Tingley, Iowa, and departed this life on April 21, 1962, at the Ringgold County Hospital, at the age of 72 years, three months and 28 days.

On July 19, 1910, she was united in marriage to Lloyd E. STEPHENS, Sr. To this union were born eight children, two of whom preceded her in death - a son in infancy and a daughter, Muriel, at age of 16 years.

Most of her life was spent in Ringgold county, with the exception of the last 20 years, during which she resided inthe Arispe vicinity.

A member of the Delphos Batpist Church, she had been a faithful attendant of and worker for the Arispie Methodist Church. For the past 17 years she had been a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Clarice (Mrs. Lawrence MINNICK), of Redding; sons, Spencer of Afton, Sherrill, of Mount Ayr; Joseph, of Dunkerton; Lloyd, Jr., of Benton; John, of Shannon City, and William of Tingley; thirty-four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ilah ELLIOTT and Mrs. Arzelle STONE of Mount Ayr, Mrs. Sadie PHILLIPS, of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Avis COWELL of Columbia, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held April 24, from the Methodist Church of Arispe, conducted by the Reverends Orville C. RINEHART and Norman NOBLE. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
