OBITUARY ~ LIZZIE C. (PARKER) STEPHENS

Lizzie C. PARKER, daughter of James and Sarah E. PARKER, was born near Benton, December 4, 1867, and departed this life in her home in Redding, September 17, 1953, at the age of 85 years, nine months and 13 days. She was the eldest in a family of four children, all of whom preceded her in death.

In August, 1892, she was married to Thomas J. STEPHENS, who passed away in 1933. To this union were born six children, three of whom preceded her in death, W. Emmett, who died in infancy, LeRoy in 1939, and Avis in 1950. Surviving are Lela and Lester M., of Redding, and Thomas J., of Norfolk, Neb. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

At an early age she united with the Methodist church at Redding and remained a faithful member until death. She was a teacher in the rural schools of Ringgold county before her marriage. She was interested in community activities. Her chief joy in life was serving her Lord as a Sunday school teacher.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church at Redding with the Re. W. A. WHITENACK officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery [Ringgold County, Iowa].
