OBITUARY ~ LARRY NEIL STEPHENS
Larry Neil STEPHENS, son of Donald Stacy and Ilah LaMoyne (RIDPATH) STEPHENS, was born June 19, 1941 at Clearfield,
Larry graduated from Clearfield high school in 1960. In 1964 he received his bachelor in science degree
from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. He returned to Clearfield where he was a teacher
and later a principal. Larry pursued and was awarded a master's degree in arts from the University of Northern
Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1969. Larry returned to NWMSU and taught for one year. He would become the liaison
between the college and the northwest Missouri high schools. At the same time, he taught half-time high school in
Savannah, Missouri. Larry would leave the teaching and administration career to become a general contractor. He
built several homes and had a business that involved all phases of woodworking. larry was a member of the United
Presbyterian Church in Lenox, Blue key leadership club, and Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity.
Larry passed away at
the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston on May 7, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded
in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory include his brothers Dale and wife Sarah STEPHENS of Scranton,
Iowa and Darrel STEPHENS of Clearfield, Iowa; four nieces, Janet (Lance) HENSON of Seymour, Indiana, Julie
(Martin) VERDOORN of Bentonville, Arkansas, Jeri (Aaron) DOBSON of Lawson, Missouri, and Jodi STEPHENS; nine great-nieces and nephews,
Stephanie and Ian HENSEN, Colin, Jason and Nathan VERDOORN, Zoe and Diesel DOBSON and Andrew and Ilah STEPHENS,
and other relatives and many close friends.
Services were conducted at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox
on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, with Rev. Tim MAXA officiating. Musicians were Roberta LOCKART and Sandy MAXA.
Honorary pallbearers were Jim MILLER, Brittany BAKER, Ron BROWN, Andrea LARSEN, Ken NELSON, Erick PRITLE, Kathy
NELSON and Sandy MAXA.
Larry was laid at rest in the Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield.
