Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY ~ JESSE STEPHENS

Jesse STEPHENS, son of John Linsey (sic, should be Lindsey) and Cathren (Catherine) STEPHENS, was born Nov. 25, 1894, on a farm near Delphos and passed away [December 21, 1978] in the Ringgold county hospital at Mount Ayr at the age of 84 years and 27 days.

He grew up and attended a rural school in Benton township.

On Nov. 14, 1917, he was united in marriage with Grace ULLERY; they established their home on a farm new (sic, near) Delphos. He and Grace lived on this same farm for 60 years, until they moved to Mount Ayr in 1977.

Jesse loved the farm and was a professional farmer and an excellent hand with livestock. He was a long-time member of the Delphos Baptist church, and a life-time resident of Ringgold county.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and his wife, Grace, on June 23, 1978.

Those left to mour his passing are two brothers and three sisters: Marion of Mount Ayr, Roy of Des Moines, Ona KASTER of Des Moines, Lela HARVEY of Lincoln [NE] and Gladys SELLERS of Mount Ayr; nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Services were held at the First Baptist church in Mount Ayr on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Norman NOBLE and Rev. Paul KNIESS officiationg. Rhoades-Wilson funeral home was in charge of the services.

Organist Mrs. Rollin NOBLE accompanied vocalists Arlen and Allen HUGHES. Casketbearers were George MOON, W. A. STEPHENS, Jack STEPHENS, Roland STEPHENS, Roger STEPHENS and Donald STEPHENS. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Mount Ayr.
