Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY ~ MRS. J. L. STEPHENS

Cathren JARVIS, daughter of Philip and Ann JARVIS, was born in Lucas county, Iowa Feb. 19, 1862 and died June 10, 1946 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy POLLEY at the age of 84 years, three months and 22 days. She had been in failing health for the past few years but her illness which resulted in her death lasted only 10 days.

When a small child she moved with her parents to Ringgold county, Iowa where she spent the remainder of her life.

She was united in marriage Nov. 20, 1880 to John Lindsey STEPHENS. To this union 14 children, seven sons and seven daughters, all of whom survive.

Mrs. STEPHENS was converted and united with the Baptist church at the old Dryden school house when quite young, later transferring her membership to the Delphos Baptist church.

Survived by: Laura LINK, Benton, Mary POLLEY, Maloy, Zella BLUNCK and Vinnie GARRETT, Redding, Ona KASTER and Gladys THARP, Des Moines, Lela HARVEY, St. Joseph, Mo.; Sons: Walter, Diagonal, Marion, Des Moines, Allen and Ray, Mount Ayr, Jess of Redding, Roy of Waterloo, and Paul of Story City; Sisters: Rebecca ENGLAND, Allendale N.D, Phoebe NAUENBURY, Cedar Rapids, Neb.; Brothers: James JARVIS, Maloy and John JARVIS, Los Angeles, Calif.; 32 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
