OBITUARY ~ GEORGE STAATS

George Hiram STAATS, son of Timothy S. and May HUBBARD STAATS, was born July 8, 1909 near Mitchell, S.D. and departed this life at his home near Hermitage, Mo. Feb. 9 [1982] at the age of 72 years, five months and nine days.

He grew to manhood and attended school near Novinger, MO. On April 30, 1932 he was united in marriage with Juanita STERNER in Marceline, Mo. Of this union seven children were born, three sons and four daughters.

In 1943 he and his family moved from Missouri to a farm in Iowa and later in 1954 they moved to Delphos, Iowa where they resided for 23 years.

During this time George operated heavy equipment for Ringgold County from 1945 to 1968. Then he required eye surgery and was no longer able to operate heavy equipment with safety. He then took up television repair and sales until he retired in 1977.

He and his wife the moved from Iowat back to an acreage near Hermitage, Mo. where he resided until his death.

Those preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and a grandson. Those who mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his wife, Juanita; three sons and daughters-in-law - William E. and Roberta of Anchorage, Alaska, Robert (Bob) and Betty of Creston, Iowa, and Fred E. and Alva of Loveland, Colo.; four daughters and sons-in-law - Doris SMITH and Jerry of Valparaiso, Ind., Margaret WILLIAMS and Charles of Kansas city, Mo., Linda Sue and Larry McCULLOUGH of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary L. EXLEY and Jim of Cokaot, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers - Timothy of Kerman, Calif, Aliner of Fresno, Calif. and Gene of Marceline, Mo.; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He and his wife and family were making plans to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on April 30, 1982. George was a loving and kind husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His being so honest left a great imppression on those who knew him.

Rev. Norman NOBLE officiated at the services held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 1982 at Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Organist was Mike GREENE, who accompanied vocalists, Mrs. Jim JONES and Mrs. Robert FISHER.

Casketbearers were Joe SEATON, Lester TROSTER, Kenneth QUICK, Virgil HOWIE, Theron JOHNSON and Lloyd STEPHENS. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
