On October 14, 1929 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth BOYD. They were privileged to have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together last October. To this union one daughter was born: Shirley Jean, who died in infancy. Although the SPEELMANS never had any other children, Kerney loved children and happy when his nieces and nephews were in his home.

In 1931 Kerney and Mary moved to a farm southest of Beaconsfield and lived on the same farm until they retired and moved to Creston in 1966.

Kerney was baptized as a child and was received as a member of the Beaconsfield Methodist Church on September 21, 1953 where he retained his membership and continued being faithful to support the church after leaving the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sisters, Margaret RUNDLETT of Creston and Georgia JOHNSTON of Ellston; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Kerney had established a scholarship fund for male nursing students at Southwestern Community College and the family requests memorials be sent to this fund in his name.

In Appreciation
Perhaps you sent a lovely card,
Or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent a funeral spray
If so we saw it there.
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words.
As any friend could say;
Perhaps you were not there at all,
Just though of us that day.
Whatever you did to console our hearts,
We thank you so much whatever the part.

Mrs. Kerney SPEELMAN and Families.

[Interment at Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa.]
