OBITUARY ~ IRENE LOIS (COVER) SNYDER

May 8, 1920 ~ March 23, 2012

A famous writer once said "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give".

If that is true, then Irene made a great life. Irene was a most giving person.

Irene Lois COVER was born on 08 May 1920 in Drinkwater, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the second child of Daniel Cover and Carrie SNYDER. They lived in Bedford, Iowa from 1925 to 1946.

Irene went to Bedford Community School and graduated with her high school diploma and teaching certificate. She then went to work with her lifelong partner and husband, Jay, in various businesses in Diagonal, Iowa.

Irene and Jay were high school sweethearts and were married on 18 February 1939. Two children were born to this union, Liane Kay (Austin) and Ronald Jay. Irene enjoyed her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. This year Irene and Jay celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary.

Irene was an avid gardener and her greatest love was to cook for her family, as well as, everyone else. There was always an extra chair for anyone at her table.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

Irene's memorials will go to the Lions Club, Fire Dept and Community Building, all located in Diagonal.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Church of Diagonal with Rev. Gwen TRULLINGER officiating. Organist was Judy NEWTON

Casket bearers included Dan SNYDER, Nate SNYDER, Connor J. SNYDER, Steve AUSTIN, Chad AUSTIN and Roni AUSTIN. Honorary pallbearers were Jack TAYLOR, Jim TAYLOR and Jay WATSON.

A private burial was held at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford, Iowa.

Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Diagonal, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
