Ernest Theodore SMITH, son of Albert and Myrtle Mae SMITH, was born May 20, 1910, near Blockton, Iowa, and passed away October 8, 1979, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 18 days.

On August 8, 1931, he was united in marriage with Leila Jeneive BUELL. To this union were born four sons - Billie, Bobbie and Ronald of Mount Ayr, and Donald of Lorimor.

Their married life was spent in southern Ringgold county where Ted was a farmer and in later years a custodian for the Delphos and Maloy schools.

As a young man, Ted was baptized into the Christian church in Blockton, and devoted his time, compassion and love to his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as the relationship he had with his brothers, sisters and his wife's family.

He served in the Armed Forces during World War II and received an honorable discharge in December of 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post 172 in Mount Ayr for many years.

Ted loved the outdoors - his favorite pastimes being fishing, hunting and gardening.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Everett, Albert and Dick; three sisters, Edna COX, RUby BOWEN and Virgie SKINNER, and a granddaughter, Melissa.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Leila; his four sones; his daughters-in-law, Rena, Sherry, Colleen and Linda; grandchildren, Terry Smith LINIGER, Red, Brent, Todd, Steve, Susan and Scott SMITH, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie COMER and Cora CATTERSON of Mount Ayr, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. from the Rhoades-Wilson funeral home with Rev. Norman NOBLE officiating. Mike GREENE ws the organist.
