OBITUARY ~ ARTHUR LEE SMITH

Arthur Lee SMITH, 63, died May 11 [1989] in his home in Dyersburg, Tenn., following a long illness with cancer.

Born October 9, 1925, at Beaconsfield, Iowa, he married Phyllis CHADIMA on August 20, 1936 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mr. SMITH graduated from the University of Iowa in February of 1950. He worked for AY McDonald and Chandler Company in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Oelwein, iowa, until 1963 when he took over the management and eventual ownership of Ames Plumbing Supply and Diesel Service in Ames, Iowa. In 1984 he moved to Dyersburg, Tenn., to assume the Tennessee Pipe and Supply branch managership.

Mr. SMITH was a member of the Elks Club, Moose Lodge, ASHRAE, Rotary, Ducks Unlimited, University of Iowa Alumni Association, Ames Homebuilders Association and Dyersburg Homebuilders Association.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy AGARD of Ankeny, Iowa and Linda WELLS of Louisville, Kentucky; a son, Daniel of Blaine, Minnesota; his mother, Fern, or Montclair, Calif.; a brother, Chester of Rialto, Calif.; three sisters, Phylliss PETERSON of Ellston, Iowa, Jean SMITH of Montclair, Calif. and Harriette SANDERS of Whittier, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, May 15, in the Methodist church at Ellston, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Jack KENDALL. Memorials may be made to Youth and Shelter Services Foundation, PO Box 1628, Ames, Iowa 50010.

[Interment was made at Ellston Cemetery.]
