OBITUARY ~ RICHARD SLAVIK

Richard Ivan SLAVIK, eldest son of Joseph and Mary JEZEK SLAVIK, was born April 9, 1911, at Diagonal, Iowa, and passed away at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center on January 15, 1990 at the age of 78 years.

Most of his life was spent on a farm south of Diagonal until his parents moved to Diagonal in 1943, retiring from the farm. Richard attended country school just a half mile west of home, sometimes trudging through deep snowdrifts to get there. He enjoyed helping with the farm work, sometimes helping in the fields, the chores, and the big family garden.

After his father died, he was a great help to his mother. After her death in May, 19082, he moved to the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

he is survived by a sister, Louise and her husband Arnold (Buck) KESSLER of Diagonal; brother, Raymond SLAVIK and wife Marilyn of Los Alamos, New Mexico; sister, Erma Jo and husband Kenneth FINE of Des Moines, Iowa; many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Rosalie, brother Earl and an infant sister.

Funeral services were held January 17, 1990 from the United Church of Diagonal at Diagonal, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Eydie STEPHENS. Music was provided by Mrs. Harold TAYLOR, organist.

Casketbearers were J. Jr. JEZEK, Eldon RICKER, Norman KLEJCH, Marvin SOBOTKA, Carrol SOBOTKA and LaVERNE KLEJCH. Burial was in the Bohemian Cemetery at Diagonal, Iowa.
