Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
July, 1973

OBITUARY ~ JESSE R. SIMPSON

Jesse R. SIMPSON, son of Jesse and Mary SIMPSON, was born November 7, 1882, in Indiana and died July 17, 1973, in the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, eight months and 11 days.

Early in life, he was united in marriage with Ida MICHAELS and of this union were born five children. His companion and children - Halle, Retha, Wayne, Lola and an infant son - preceded him in death. The late Lola LEONARD was the last member of his family.

Mr. SIMPSON lived in the Kellerton community most of his life. He was engaged in farming for several years and later was employed as foreman of the Ringgold county yards.

Through the reading of his page-worn Bible, Mr. SIMPSON learned to love righteousness and was a great believer in the Almighty.

He was blessed with a good long life and had many friends - young as well as old. He will be sadly missed by the ones who knew and loved him.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a son-in-law, Paul LEONARD, and two grandchildren, Kay and Gary LEONARD, who were very close and dear to him; a sister, Mrs. Blanch MITCHELL of Lamoni and three brothers, Art of Leon, Joe of Lamoni and Ray of Tarkio, Mo.

Funeral services were held July 19, from the Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, conducted by the Rev. Walter ZARR. Jack HUGHES sang, accompanied by Mrs. Weldon MEADOWS, organist. Casketbearers were Larry CAMPBELL, Bud HIGHTSHOE, Darrell POWERS, Floyd HANKS, Wallace TEALE and Ora FUGATE. Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.

The shake of his hand,
The warmth of his smile,
The love of things beautiful,
Good and worthwhile.
Those we will cherish our life through,
Just knowing we had a brother -
Jesse, like you.
