OBITUARY ~ DUANE EUSTACE SICKELS

Duane Eustace SICKELS, was born March 12, 1914, at Blockton, Iowa, son of E. G. and Isabel NYE SICKELS, who preceded him in death.

Duane departed this life on July 2, 1982, at the age of 68 years, three months and 21 days at the Ringgold County hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He spent the early part of his life on a farm southeast of Mount Ayr.

As a young man he worked in the Civilian Conservation Crops and later served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was married to Leta JONES in September, 1935. To this union was born a daughter, Helen Louise.

On March 7, 1953, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, he was united in marriage with Lucille SHAUGHNESSY, who preceded him in death July 19, 1971.

After working 31 years as an automobile mechanic he moved to Lake Ahquabi at Indianola where he worked at the State Park during the summer months.

He belonged to the Fort Des Moines Church of Christ.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and snowmobiling. He enjoyed the activities of Lake Ahquabi State Park and was especially fond of the officers, Albert (Bud) GANDY and Craig KAISER and their families.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his daughter, Helen and husband, Maurice HUNT; two grandsons, David and Randy; a granddaughter-in-law, Lori, and a great-grandson, Douglas; also his eight brothers and two sisters and many nieces and nephews, along with his cherished friends, the Albert GANDY family and the Craig KAISER family and his god son, Roger Duane KAISER, and the Kenneth McGEHEE family and many others.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 5, 1982 at the Mount Ayr First Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Phil KINTON. Mike GREENE was organist and accompanied vocalists, Mrs. Robert FISHER and Mrs. Jim JONES.

Casketbearers were Ross KAISER, Billy KAISER, Michail KAISER, Albert GANDY, Harold GANDY and David CHAPLIN. Honorary casketbearer was Craig KAISER. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr.
