He died at his father's house in Mount Ayr, Iowa, February 16, 1918, at the age of 22 years, 4 months and 16 days. Hallie had a host of friends and was always admired for his cheerful disposition. he had been a sufferer for eighteen years, but was always cheerful and hopeful. Up until the last three years he was in constant attendance at Sunday school, but was not permitted to attend lately on account of poor health. He will be greatly missed by his friends, yet there will always be a kindly remembrance of his loving disposition. He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother and two brothers [Roy and Garold]. He was conscious until the last and told his parents he was ready to go.

You are gone from us forever.
Nevermore to come again
Back to earth to stay, no never,
While the heavenly kingdoms reign.
We will miss you sadly, Hallie,
In our daily walks of life,
But we hope to meet ere many
Years of grief sad toil and strife.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist church and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Frank BEAN.

NOTE: Hallie's parents were Stephen Douglas and Cora Myrtle (HALL) SHORT. Hallie suffered from tuberculosis. He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
